Busy, Busy, Busy!

This week Anna and I have been very busy getting ready for the Fall Frolic. It’s already a week away! Here are a few of our projects:

If you want to see more, you will have to come on Saturday, November 14, from 9am-3pm at Cornerstone Church.

It has been very nice this week! The chickens are loving it and the egg production has increased! Eight in one day! Some of them are jumbos too! Yesterday when we let them out I saw the hawk flying in the sky, so we started to put them in, by the time we had them in the enclosure, the hawk had come down to just over the tree tops! They were able to get out again later that evening, but we kept a close eye on them!

As a treat we also made pumpkin pie bars, Yum!

One of my favorite breakfasts is plantain waffles or pancakes. Here is the recipe:

Plantain Waffles

Plantain Waffles

2 large plantains

4 eggs

1/2 teaspoon of baking soda

pinch of salt

2 tablespoons of butter or coconut butter

1 teaspoon of cinnamon

Mix all of the ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. If the batter is to thick (it will pour kind of in clumps) add a little bit of water until it is easy to pour. For waffles, you can heat a Belgian waffle iron and make delicious waffles, or for pancakes, simply pour into a pre-heated pan on low heat (I usually put my pan on 2). I like waffles (or pancakes) with one of the following: maple syrup, peanut butter, honey, or maple cream.

Last Saturday we took Rontu over to a fellow puppy raiser’s house. She had a fenced-in play area were we could let Rontu off leash. Her puppy, Bodie, joined in the fun!

Today marks the beginning of a project that I have started with Anna, Zachary Pierpont, and Josiah Pierpont. We are starting a 365 photos in a year project, were we all take one photo a day and share it with each other on Instagram. If you would like to follow my photos, just let me know and I can get you my Instagram name. I am hoping to improve my photography skills through this project.

Also, look for project tutorials in the coming blog posts. I am hoping to post a couple tutorials on all the crafts we enjoy doing.

Have a great week!

This was one of my favorites. I was thrilled to see this verse on the church bulletin this month! 🙂 IMG_0116

My Week!

It has been a very busy and eventful week! Tuesday and Thursday were the most eventful. On Tuesday we went to Hartwick Pines and on Thursday we had a hawk attack and mommy had an EHT party! Here is the week in pictures:

We were hiking on the Aspen Trail at Hartwick Pines and then somehow we took a wrong turn and ended up back at the Old Growth Forest Trail.

There is a bunch of these cool mushrooms growing in out front yard!  I think that it is a Shaggy Mane mushroom.

The hawk attack happened yesterday while I was busy helping prepare food for the party. All the chickens were out and all of a sudden I here an alarm squawk and a lot of screeching. I hurried out the sliding glass windows and see a hawk near the corner of the house diving down for a Silver Leghorn. It flew away when it saw me. I then went hunting for all the chickens to put them in. Most of the older hens were in a patch of woods near the front yard. My sister got a container of sunflower seeds to get them to the coop, because, I tell you, it’s hard to herd a bunch of frozen chickens! Next I found a couple of partridge rocks and Dinky on the other side of the house and another partridge rock was under a wheelbarrow and yet another was on the front porch! All the silver leghorns were near the corner of the house that the hawk attacked at. Once we got them in I counted, we were missing two birds, Billie and a partridge rock. We looked every were for them and could not find them. Even the neighbor helped! We finally gave up and went inside. After about an hour the partridge rock came out from the woods and after about 2 hours Billie finally appeared out of a patch of woods we had looked through 3 times! Finally they were all safe!

Practicing photography tricks this week! That is not wine, that is elderberry kombucha with fake grapes. The meat and cheese is real because that is what we had for a snack.

For once my camera took a nice photo! :)

For once my camera took a nice photo! 🙂

This week for photography class I had to take pictures of different kinds of plants. The rose picture above is probably my favorite picture that I took.

Not sure what kind of berry this is, but it is a very nice picture.

I love plants and trees with berry’s on them. The sun was in just the right place to capture this photo.

My camera is not food, stop pecking at it!

Amigo was convinced my camera had to be some kind of exotic new treat I was giving her. She really liked the lens part. (probably because it was shiny)

Amigo your just a weird bird, but you make a nice picture.

It took a lot of try’s to get this picture of Amigo.

I was craving peanut butter, the result: peanut butter cookies. :)

One of my favorite cookies to make (and eat). I made these particular peanut butter cookies with only three ingredients; peanut butter, salt, and coconut nectar (or maple sugar). They will definitely be made again (soon).

Thank you for all the comments I love them!

Another Day

This week our three roosters will be leaving. My favorite is a Partridge Rock rooster named Robin. Below are some pictures of this beautiful rooster.

Head shot of Robin.

Robin is a very calm rooster, though he likes chasing the older hens around the yard.

Lately Robin has taken to chasing down our oldest hen Billie. Alexa and I will catch Robin and hold him captive for some time as ''punishment''. Robin must like it because he still chases Billie. :)

This week I also made a delicious loaf of paleo bread. The reason it does not rise up is because I use coconut butter when the recipe calls for cashew butter, which I cant have, so… I improvise and it still turns out delicious. My sister loves it!

Paleo bread!

Deer season is right around the corner! I have been practicing with my bow nearly every day. I don’t hunt but it is still fun to practice!

Every arrow in the white! Well all the arrows I have left. The first I shot a vein off of and the other I shot into the metal fire pit and smashed the end of it.

(I love to hear from my readers)

Welcome to our blog!

Hello! Our names are Anna and Alexa. We are twins from the middle of the mitten (Michigan, that is). Both of us love crafting, cooking, baking, and being creative. One of our passions is raising our backyard flock of chickens.  We participate in 4-H and look forward to the County Fair every summer. In the fall we love harvesting our gardens and going on fall camping trips with our family. Winter is one of our favorite times of the year. We love celebrating our birthday and Christmas with our family! During the spring we are busy raising goats and poultry for the fair.

Anna- Hi!  I enjoy creating new recipes, needlefelting, knitting, and sewing. I also enjoy raising my chickens and in the spring, goats.  My favorite activities would include biking, cross-country running, and octaball. Reading is also a fun relaxing activity for me, some of my favorites books would include The Chronicles of Narnia,  The Left Behind series, the Bible and most recently the Chiveis Trilogy. I love hanging out with my friends as well. Thank you for checking out our blog! May God bless.

Alexa- My hobbies are sewing, crafting, baking, cooking, and raising animals. I absolutely love raising our flock of chickens. I love caring  for them and learning from any difficulties that might happen. My favorite things to grow in my garden are, colorful carrots, gourds, and herbs. I love animals and strive to care for my pets the best I can. I also care about wild animals and love researching information on certain wildlife. I have 1 tree frog and a flock of 23 chickens. My favorite hens are, Amigo the Black Sex Link, Flint the Buff Orpington, and Red the Silver Leghorn. I love riding horses when ever I get the chance and visiting other peoples farms. The highlights of my summer are the Fair and family vacations. Every year I raise chickens to show at the fair. I love caring for the chicks and practicing with them for showmanship. This year I also showed dogs at the fair. I really enjoyed it and hope to do it again next year. When I am not busy taking care of the animals I love finding crafts to complete. Some of my favorite crafty things to do are, needlefelt, hand sew, machine sew, draw, and color. Finding new gluten free, paleo recipes is a fun challenge also! I love making new desserts and trying them out on my family. Another thing I love to do is photography. Taking pictures of food, birds, and other animals is so much fun!
